Peppers do NOT burn because of the acid. That is simply WRONG. The burning feeling comes due to a chemical reaction, the chemical in question is called capsaicin. If you want to diminish the burning effect, use sugar. Why? Because "scoville units" are simply a measurement (though past about 15,000 they are theoretical) of how much SUGAR it takes to neutralize the capsaicin's effect.

As someone who has accidentally eaten one of these chillies (I have whole dried ones - which is what I failed to spot in one of my chillis - as well as lots of seeds as well as pastes/sauce), his reaction seems pretty similar to mine! It certainly lasted for half an hour, and I swear the roof of my mouth blistered (or felt as if it had). The only thing I was doing more was retching - really, really hot food gives me hiccups, and this was strong enough to turn each hiccup into a retch. It was not fun, I was and I was running around the house gasping as I downed beers, and sugar/lemon water.
